Welcome!
Hi all. Thanks for visiting this blog on installing and maintaining a Landmark home automation system. I have dedicated this site to one of the most flexible home automation systems - that your average homeowner can maintain with some technical expertise. If you are here, then you probably have a system, inherited a system, or are looking for something inexpensive to automate your home! As Landmark is now over 10 years old, there are few places to go and get information, so I am hoping that this will help. Even after all these years, I find that it is a cheap and effective approach for typical home automation tasks! Hopefully, you will find what you are looking for here. Feel free to post questions, and I will get back to you as soon as possible. If you want a private reply, just leave your email in the post as Blogger does not provide that to me.

I'm trying to help a friend with a setup in the house they just moved into, they have a CF-10, hub, amp8,and as8. She says the system worked when they moved in. I discovered that the hub was toast so we replaced it with a functioning unit, but now I'm having trouble getting everything working. This was pc free. And intercoms in each room. I think 4 zones. Do I need to run a pc up and software, or should I be able to get it running without? Does the software run ok on Windows 7?
ReplyDeleteEach piece of equipment in the system is identified by a unique identifier, so unfortunately it can't just be replaced. You would need to connect a Windows XP laptop to the system, and within the programming system, add the new hub. You may be able to download he original programming from the MCU and make this work, but you would need a laptop. If you are up for it let me know and I can get you the software. Send a comment and leave your email address.
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI'm struggling to find the AMX Lamdmark software, do you know what the link for it was? I am just starting the journey of helping a friend who inherited a landmark system in her new (used ) house.
I can get you the Landmark software. Please note that it will only run on a PC with Windows XP SP2 with a serial port (to support programming), an Ethernet port to connect via Netbios to the equipment, and a CD player to install the software. Please see my post on communications to get Windows setup right. Post a comment and include your email address. If you send a self addressed envelope, I can send you the CD.
DeleteHi I have an original, the first phast landmark system and my MCU failed what would you recommend?
ReplyDeleteIf the MCU has failed, the hardware can be replaced fairly inexpensively from parts purchased on eBay. The problem is that the system programming is stored on the MCU, and if the MCU is replaced, the system would need to be reprogrammed which requires software, time and energy. Here is what I would check:
DeleteA) It is possible that the MCU card is working, but that the equipment has failed - the PLB-CF10 or PLB-CF2. I would try replacing the equipment... you have to make sure all cards are reinstalled in their exact position.
B) It is possible that the battery on the MCU card has failed. It is a traditional PC BIOS battery. Try replacing that.
C) If you narrow it down and the MCU is actually bad (see diagnostic instructions on the PLC-MCU manual), then you would need to replace and reprogram. There is an AMX programmer on eBay that may be able to help. Try searching for the following user on eBay: macallan18gr
